Care and Cleaning

Each Jewelry by Kaia piece is hand-made and created to last a lifetime. However, proper care is required to assure the lasting qualities of your jewelry.

Sterling Silver is durable but can scratch upon excessive wear and tear. Avoid wearing jewelry while in contact with household chemicals. Take off jewelry before rough manual work or sports. Stones could be jarred loose or chipped by a hard blow. When you are not wearing your jewelry, ensure pieces do not tumble against each other.

Argentium™ is a Sterling Silver alloy that is considered virtually tarnish-free. However, if you notice a little yellowing to the silver (due to the presence of sulfur compounds in the environment or in the chemistry of the skin) you can spray on a small amount of Windex, let sit for a few seconds, then wipe off.

The stones used in inlay are "soft" stones such as Turquoise and Malachite. While durable, they can scratch. To protect, a light coating of wax is used. If you notice dulling or excessive wear, you can apply a little Carnauba wax (such as Renaissance Wax), let sit for about 15 minutes and buff with a soft cloth. Do not use an ultrasonic cleaner.

As an organic gem composed of calcium carbonate, pearls are more vulnerable to chemicals and scatching. It is always best to remove pearl jewelry before applying make-up, lotions or perfume. Dirt can be removed with mild soap and water. Do not use an ultrasonic cleaner. Pearls in rings and bracelets are more subject to damage since they sit on your hands. Never wear these pieces when you anticipate working with your hands.

The Gemstones used in Jewelry by Kaia jewelry are as a rule very durable. However, it is always good practice to bring in your jewelry at least once a year to check for loose or chipped stones. Failure to do so could lead to stone loss.
